Anxiety, Depression and Burn-out
Supporting you to come into a rest and restore state.
Anxiety
Anxiety is an expression of our nervous system trying to protect us, yet somehow getting stuck along the way. This stuck-ness can result in consistant sate of unease and panic attacks that in themselves increase of sense of danger.
I can support you through simple self-help exercises to help focus and ground to move you through overwhelming anxiety. Somatic craniosacral touch can support the body to feel safe and release long-term tension patterns as well as offer a sense of calm and comfort in being in your body.
Burn-out & Fatigue
A body that has had it's adrenals firing constantly for whatever reason can become stuck in a state of fight or flight. This can lead to experiences of anxiety, panic attacks, fatigue and depression and can be extremely debilitating both physically and mentally. I know, I have been there. The body has an innate ability to return to balance, with time and the right support. I can support you with gentle touch, somatic movement and self-care exercises that help bring your body into a calm state where a sense of balance and overall wellbeing can be reached.
Depression
“We can move on from the old polarised view of depression as all in the mind or all in the brain to see it as rooted also in the body; to see depression instead as a response of the whole organism or human self to the challenges of survival in a hostile world.”
― Edward Bullmore, The Inflamed Mind: A radical new approach to depression
New research is showing a link between the immune system, inflammation and depression. Inflammation reduces the supply of serotonin - the hormone responsible for wellbeing and happiness - as a transmitter between nerve cells.
Biodynamic craniosacral touch can support depression alongside your healthcare provider in two main ways:
- To stimulate the vagus nerve - The Vagus nerve mediates the immune system via the release of corticosteroids from the adrenals, and via the immune cells themselves when it detects inflammatory cytokines - triggering a response to the nervous system to try and maintain homeostasis of the immune system.
- To reconnect to the body - Depression tends to be a disassociated state where someone does not feel connected to one's body. The somatic element in this therapy helps a client to reconnect safely to their body.
